“To all our friends and families around the world,As you know, on March 13, 2015, Vanuatu was smashed by a monster cyclone – TC Pam. There was massive damage done to the Further Arts office. Up until now, we have not set up a direct donation page for Further Arts. Despite all the damage to the office and the studio equipment, and the problems that it has caused for Sarah and Ladonna and all the local media crew who use the studio for the media work, we are conscious that the damage to Further Arts has been damage to property … not to people or their access to food and water. So for this reason we have been waiting for the first round of critical relief to be mobilised for people whose lives are in danger before we make a call out for FA.We have also been coordinating collections of donations for specific communities that we work with. The young media crew at FA also worked with UNICEF to interview cyclone survivors around Port Vila in the fiurst few weeks after it hit. We are now working with the Erromango community on a documentary video project to document the stories of resilience and survival from this island which was one of the worst hit.
We have pretty much reached the stage now where we feel like we need to start to prioritise the “rebuilding” of Further Arts. Now that the first round of relief has been distributed to people, gardens are starting to grow again, and some parts of life are getting back to normal. If you are able to support our campaign to rebuild the office and the studio … and the organisation … please click through to our campaign site: rebuilding.furtherarts.orgThanks for your supportThomas DickChairFurther Arts“
