2015 to 2017
Funder: Commonwealth Foundation
This project was designed in response to the devastation to Vanuatu caused by Tropical Cyclone Pam in March 2015. TC Pam lifted the roof off the Further Arts office and studio damaging equipment and on-site records, books, DVDs, CDs, and archives of footage. This project sought to replace damaged equipment, and provide resources and funding to support capacity building of Nesar Studio members, especially in the areas of:
- Capacity development services – mentoring to assist young creatives and cooperatives with enterprise planning and management;
- Media training support services – support for training providers to become more effective and to develop capacity for delivering short courses in appropriate technologies;
- Media production services – providing access to cameras, internet, computers, and printers for Nesar Studio members to reinforce the effectiveness of the other services; and,
- Coordinating a youth-led creative recovery program and documenting the stories of resilience and survival including the production of new TV series and a range of documentary films.
The combined impact of this capacity development was to enhance the ability of Melanesian civil society to engage in public dialogue and other activities that bring about social transformation.
