Remix is a project researching and supporting practices and protocols surrounding creative reuse of traditional knowledge in contemporary creative arts in the Pacific and Australia. Taking Vanuatu as the primary focus, the project will research, model and test pathways and practices that support Indigenous contemporary art and cultural production that draws on traditional knowledge, styles and forms.

Working with partner organisations in Vanuatu and Australia the project will implement a number of collaborative art case study projects, and use collaborative ethnographic, qualitative and archival research to understand how creative re-use of traditional knowledge is being negotiated and managed by artists, kastom knowledge owners, communities and cultural organisations in Vanuatu, and what the of these practices of ‘remix’ have in contemporary cultural expression and creative industry development.
